Traffic School Tip for VA Adjust mirrors and seats before turning on the vehicle.
Traffic School Tip for VA Truck and bus wheels spray a lot of rain and slush. When the road is wet, turn on your windshield wipers when approaching trucks and buses so you'll be able to see more clearly at all times.
Traffic School Tip for VA Most new cars have air bags for front-seat passengers. When used with lap/shoulder belts, air bags work very well to protect older children and adults. Air bags do not work with rear-facing child seats (those used with infants). Airbags could seriously injure or even kill an unbuckled child or adult who is sitting too close to the air bag or who is thrown toward the dash during emergency braking. In a crash, the air bag inflates very quickly. It could hit anything close to the dashboard with enough force to cause severe injuries or even death. Because the back of a rear-facing child seat sits very close to the dashboard, the seat could be struck with enough force to cause serious, or even fatal injuries to a baby. Even older children (who have outgrown child seats) are at risk from a deploying air bag, if they are not properly restrained.
Traffic School Tip for VA Per vehicle mile traveled in 1999, motorcyclists were about 18 times as likely as passenger car occupants to die in a motor vehicle traffic crash and 3 times as likely to be injured. (Source: Traffic Safety Facts 2000: Motorcycles, NHTSA)
Traffic School Tip for VA TxDOT encourages football fans to have a game plan in place before kickoff. Designate a sober driver, take a cab or call a sober friend.
Traffic School Tip for VA If you don't wear a seat belt, your chances of dying or being injured in a vehicle crash are much higher. In Virginia, 366 unrestrained people died in car crashes and 5,638 unbelted motorists were injured in 2008.
Traffic School Tip for VA Solid white lines are used for pavement edge lines, shoulder markings, channelizing, transitions and lane use control. Crossing a solid white line should be avoided if possible. The solid yellow line on the left edge of the roadway is a guide to drivers that driving to the left of the yellow line is prohibited because the line is marking the left edge of the roadway. This type of yellow line can be found on interstate highways. |
