Why is it so important not to have rear-facing child safety seats in the front seat?
The force of nearly 3,000 pounds of pressure from a crash would thrust the child forward, crushing it between the safety seat and the back of the car seat. Never place a rear-facing child safety seat in the front seat of a vehicle equipped with a passenger-front airbag.

Check the rearview mirror before and after you brake, every time.

Tip for WESTVILLE, New Jersey
At high speeds on the freeway you will need extra room for braking. Keep in mind that on dry pavement at 55 mph it takes about 265 feet to bring your vehicle to a complete stop. On wet pavement that distance increases to 289 feet. At 65 mph the stopping distances shoot up to 344 feet on dry pavement and 378 on wet pavement. And watch out for large trucks on the freeway, their extra weight means they need ever more distance to stop.

Tip for WESTVILLE, New Jersey
To estimate how many feet you need to stop you vehicle at a given speed, add your reaction distance to your braking distance (reaction distance + braking distance = stopping distance). The total is your stopping distance. As the graph below shows, the faster you go the more distance you need to safely stop.

Tip for WESTVILLE, New Jersey
Texas driving tip: The maximum daytime speed limit on most interstate and state highways in Texas is 70 miles per hour. At night, the maximum speed limit is 65 miles per hour. In some areas, the speed limit is higher because of fewer people traveling on certain roads.
