Defensive Driving Tips
for VINA, California

How long is the Defensive Driving course?
Most people can finish in about 4-6 hours. Some people take longer, but that is a rough guide for most students.

My due date is approaching fast. How far ahead do I need to complete the course?
We recommend you complete our course at least 10 business days prior to your due date. That will give you enough to mail your completed certificate to your court. When you receive your certificate from us, you are responsible for mailing it to your court on time.

Do I need to attend a classroom?
No. The course is entirely online. It is web learning on your schedule at your pace.

How do airbags work?
Airbags work by preventing your upper body from striking the steering wheel, dashboard and windshield in a head-on collision. Airbags will NOT deploy in most side-collisions, but side airbags are not as common as front airbags. A sensor is activated when the car strikes a solid object. This sensor sends an electric current, initiating a chemical release of non-toxic nitrogen gas that causes the airbag to inflate. The deployment is instantaneous and the airbag will deflate immediately, preventing the risk of suffocation.

How long is the final exam?
The final exam length depends upon the state or region where you received your speeding ticket. Many exams are 25 questions long, but some are longer.

What is the course cancellation/refund policy?
Our course provider says, New York Users Only - A full refund will be made to any student who cancels the enrollment contract within 30 days of registering for the course and prior to attempting the final examination. The COURSE PROVIDER will terminate, without notice, the enrollment of any student who has not successfully completed the course within 30 days. All registration fees paid are due and refundable when the course of instruction is discontinued by the COURSE PROVIDER, preventing a student from completing the course, or the enrollment of the student was procured as a result of any misrepresentation in advertising, promotional materials of the COURSE PROVIDER, or representation made by the owner or employee of the COURSE PROVIDER. All refunds will be issued within 30 days following receipt of a permissible request for cancellation.

Tip for VINA, California
Approximately 45 percent of all injury crashes, or nearly 900,000 crashes, occurred at intersections. Each year, side-impact crashes, which occur mostly at intersections, cause more than one-third of all vehicle occupant deaths.

Tip for VINA, California
Don't cut in front of a large truck just because you see open space there. The driver is leaving enough room to brake safely. If you reduce this braking distance, you may be forcing the driver behind you to make a difficult choice: either brake hard (possibly causing problems such as jackknifing), or risk rear-ending your vehicle.

Winter driving tip from Caltrans: Put an extra car key in you pocket. A number of motorists have locked themselves out of their cars when putting on chains and at ski areas.

The cost of unbuckled drivers and passengers goes far beyond those killed and the loss to their families. We all pay in higher taxes and higher health care and insurance costs. (Sources: Facts to Buckle Up America and Traffic Safety Facts 2006 Data, NHTSA)

Tip for VINA, California
Despite significant gains since the enactment of Federal motor vehicle and highway safety legislation in the mid 1960's, the annual toll of traffic crashes remains tragically high. In 2001, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA's) Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and General Estimates System (GES) revealed that approximately 42,116 people were killed and another 3.03 million were injured on our Nation's roadways. Traffic crashes continue to account for 95 percent of all transportation fatalities and 99 percent of injuries, and represent the leading cause of death for individuals ages 4 through 33. The large number of crashes has placed a considerable burden on our Nation's health care system affecting the economy ' reaching $230.6 billion a year, or an average of $820 for every person living in the United States.
