Tip for STUART, Florida Concentrate on your driving, not on your cell phone, stereo, passengers or other distractions.
Tip for STUART, Florida At high speeds on the freeway you will need extra room for braking. Keep in mind that on dry pavement at 55 mph it takes about 265 feet to bring your vehicle to a complete stop. On wet pavement that distance increases to 289 feet. At 65 mph the stopping distances shoot up to 344 feet on dry pavement and 378 on wet pavement. And watch out for large trucks on the freeway, their extra weight means they need ever more distance to stop.
Tip for STUART, Florida Check the rearview mirror before and after you brake, every time.
Tip for STUART, Florida Texas motorcycle safety tip: ride at a safe speed and never ride if you've been drinking
Tip for STUART, Florida Texas motorcycle safety tip: take a course to learn or reinforce safe riding techniques
Tip for STUART, Florida For the best possible protection keep infants in the back seat, in rear-facing child safety seats, as long as possible up to the height or weight limit of the particular seat. At a minimum, keep infants rear-facing until a minimum of age 1 and at least 20 pounds.
Tip for STUART, Florida Most new cars have air bags for front-seat passengers. When used with lap/shoulder belts, air bags work very well to protect older children and adults. Air bags do not work with rear-facing child seats (those used with infants). Airbags could seriously injure or even kill an unbuckled child or adult who is sitting too close to the air bag or who is thrown toward the dash during emergency braking. In a crash, the air bag inflates very quickly. It could hit anything close to the dashboard with enough force to cause severe injuries or even death. Because the back of a rear-facing child seat sits very close to the dashboard, the seat could be struck with enough force to cause serious, or even fatal injuries to a baby. Even older children (who have outgrown child seats) are at risk from a deploying air bag, if they are not properly restrained.
Tip for STUART, Florida Research has shown that lap/shoulder belts, when used properly, reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger car occupants by 45 percent and the risk of moderate to critical injury by 50 percent. For light truck occupants, safety belts reduce the risk of fatal injury by 60 percent and moderate-to-critical injury by 65 percent.
