Tip for HARRIS, New York Texas driving tip: Don't drink and drive - even small amounts of alcohol can impair your judgment and your reaction time.
Tip for HARRIS, New York In fatal crashes, only one percent of belted occupants are ejected from their vehicle; 22 percent of unbelted occupants are ejected and 75 percent of them are killed.
Tip for HARRIS, New York Adjust mirrors and seats before turning on the vehicle.
Tip for HARRIS, New York Most new cars have air bags for front-seat passengers. When used with lap/shoulder belts, air bags work very well to protect older children and adults. Air bags do not work with rear-facing child seats (those used with infants). Airbags could seriously injure or even kill an unbuckled child or adult who is sitting too close to the air bag or who is thrown toward the dash during emergency braking. In a crash, the air bag inflates very quickly. It could hit anything close to the dashboard with enough force to cause severe injuries or even death. Because the back of a rear-facing child seat sits very close to the dashboard, the seat could be struck with enough force to cause serious, or even fatal injuries to a baby. Even older children (who have outgrown child seats) are at risk from a deploying air bag, if they are not properly restrained.
Tip for HARRIS, New York In 2004, more than 2.7 million intersection-related crashes occurred, accounting for more than 45 percent of all crashes in the United States. That same year, intersection fatalities were 9,117 or 21 percent of all traffic fatalities.
Tip for HARRIS, New York The effects of a crash involving a motorcycle can often be devastating. While 20 percent of passenger vehicle crashes result in injury or death, an astounding 80 percent of motorcycle crashes result in injury or death.
Tip for HARRIS, New York In 2006 automobile right-of-way issues caused 49,608 injuries and 270 deaths in California, while pedestrian right-of-way issues caused 4,395 injuries and 96 deaths, according to the CHP. (2006 Annual Report of Fatal and Injury Motor Vehicle Traffic Collisions, CHP)
Tip for HARRIS, New York Once children outgrow their forward-facing seats (usually around age 4 and 40 pounds), they should ride in booster seats, in the back seat, until the vehicle seat belts fit properly. Seat belts fit properly when the lap belt lays across the upper thighs and the shoulder belt fits across the chest (usually at age 8 or when they are 4?9? tall).
