I am able to adjust the position of my steering wheel. Which position is most likely to minimize injury but provide the greatest protection from an airbag? Tilt the steering wheel toward your breastbone. Do not tilt it toward your abdomen or toward your head and neck. Try to adjust your seat at least 10 inches away from the center of the steering wheel.

Tip for EPPING, North Dakota Larger vehicles create more air turbulence at highway speeds. When approaching, keep a steady grip on your steering wheel.
Tip for EPPING, North Dakota Stop completely at stop signs and red lights. Brake smoothly, and avoid slamming on the brakes. When stopping behind another car, stay at a distance from which you can see the tires of the vehicle in front of you.
Tip for EPPING, North Dakota Winter driving tip from Caltrans: Chains must be installed on the drive wheels. Make sure you know if your vehicle is front or rear wheel drive.
Tip for EPPING, North Dakota A recent analysis of age trends shows that over the past 10 years, fatalities in the 20 to 29 year old age group, the group with consistently the highest annual number of motorcycle fatalities, decreased, while fatalities in the 40 and over age groups increased. During this time, however, there were more driving age individuals in the 40 and over age group in the United States.
Tip for EPPING, North Dakota In 2004, more than 2.7 million intersection-related crashes occurred, accounting for more than 45 percent of all crashes in the United States. That same year, intersection fatalities were 9,117 or 21 percent of all traffic fatalities.
Tip for EPPING, North Dakota Winter driving tip from Caltrans: When stalled, stay with your vehicle and try to conserve fuel while maintaining warmth. Be alert to any possible exhaust or monoxide problems.
Tip for EPPING, North Dakota Don't tailgate. Try to keep four seconds of following distance between your car and the vehicle in front of you.
Tip for EPPING, North Dakota Most new cars have air bags for front-seat passengers. When used with lap/shoulder belts, air bags work very well to protect older children and adults. Air bags do not work with rear-facing child seats (those used with infants). Airbags could seriously injure or even kill an unbuckled child or adult who is sitting too close to the air bag or who is thrown toward the dash during emergency braking. In a crash, the air bag inflates very quickly. It could hit anything close to the dashboard with enough force to cause severe injuries or even death. Because the back of a rear-facing child seat sits very close to the dashboard, the seat could be struck with enough force to cause serious, or even fatal injuries to a baby. Even older children (who have outgrown child seats) are at risk from a deploying air bag, if they are not properly restrained.
