Tip for AVOCA, New York LATCH consists of lower attachments on child seats and a set of tether anchors in the vehicle to hold the child seat in place without the use of the vehicle's seat belts.
Tip for AVOCA, New York Motorcyclist fatalities have increased each year since reaching an historic low of 2,116 fatalities in 1997. In 2001, 3,181 motorcyclists were killed, an increase of over 50 percent between 1997 and 2001. Without this substantial increase in motorcyclist fatalities between 1997 and 2001, overall highway fatalities would have experienced a marked reduction of about 2.5 percent over this same time period
Tip for AVOCA, New York Most new cars have air bags for front-seat passengers. When used with lap/shoulder belts, air bags work very well to protect older children and adults. Air bags do not work with rear-facing child seats (those used with infants). Airbags could seriously injure or even kill an unbuckled child or adult who is sitting too close to the air bag or who is thrown toward the dash during emergency braking. In a crash, the air bag inflates very quickly. It could hit anything close to the dashboard with enough force to cause severe injuries or even death. Because the back of a rear-facing child seat sits very close to the dashboard, the seat could be struck with enough force to cause serious, or even fatal injuries to a baby. Even older children (who have outgrown child seats) are at risk from a deploying air bag, if they are not properly restrained.
Tip for AVOCA, New York Winter driving tip from Caltrans: Slow down. A highway speed of 65 miles per hour may be safe in dry weather, but an invitation for trouble on snow and ice.
Tip for AVOCA, New York The annual vehicle miles traveled in Texas during 2008 reached 245.264 billion, an increase of 1.46%
Tip for AVOCA, New York For the best possible protection keep infants in the back seat, in rear-facing child safety seats, as long as possible up to the height or weight limit of the particular seat. At a minimum, keep infants rear-facing until a minimum of age 1 and at least 20 pounds.
Tip for AVOCA, New York Winter driving tip from Caltrans: You will usually have about a mile between Chains Required signs and the checkpoint to install your chains.
Tip for AVOCA, New York Allow plenty of time to get to your destination and plan your journey to avoid rush hours.
