How do airbags work? Airbags work by preventing your upper body from striking the steering wheel, dashboard and windshield in a head-on collision. Airbags will NOT deploy in most side-collisions, but side airbags are not as common as front airbags. A sensor is activated when the car strikes a solid object. This sensor sends an electric current, initiating a chemical release of non-toxic nitrogen gas that causes the airbag to inflate. The deployment is instantaneous and the airbag will deflate immediately, preventing the risk of suffocation.
What is the course cancellation/refund policy? Our course provider says, New York Users Only - A full refund will be made to any student who cancels the enrollment contract within 30 days of registering for the course and prior to attempting the final examination. I am able to adjust the position of my steering wheel. Which position is most likely to minimize injury but provide the greatest protection from an airbag? Tilt the steering wheel toward your breastbone. Do not tilt it toward your abdomen or toward your head and neck. Try to adjust your seat at least 10 inches away from the center of the steering wheel.
How long is the Defensive Driving course? Most people can finish in about 4-6 hours. Some people take longer, but that is a rough guide for most students.

Tip for HARWOOD, Texas Likewise, rural motorcycle fatalities have been increasing and have, in fact, surpassed urban fatalities in the years 1998 through 2001.
Tip for HARWOOD, Texas A recent analysis of age trends shows that over the past 10 years, fatalities in the 20 to 29 year old age group, the group with consistently the highest annual number of motorcycle fatalities, decreased, while fatalities in the 40 and over age groups increased. During this time, however, there were more driving age individuals in the 40 and over age group in the United States.
Tip for HARWOOD, Texas Wear your seat belt every time on every ride and make sure everyone else in the vehicle is buckled up.
Tip for HARWOOD, Texas When children outgrow their booster seats, (usually at age 8 or when they are 4?9? tall) they can use the adult seat belt in the back seat, if it fits properly (lap belt lays across the upper thighs and the shoulder belt fits across the chest).
Tip for HARWOOD, Texas On many highways with three or more lanes, large vehicles are not allowed to use the far left lane, even for passing slower vehicles. When a large vehicle is following you in a center lane, give it the opportunity to pass by moving to the right lane.
Tip for HARWOOD, Texas One-seventh (14 percent) of the pedalcyclists killed in traffic crashes in 2006 were between the ages of 5 and 15. (Source: Traffic Safety Facts 2006 Data, NHTSA)
Tip for HARWOOD, Texas Most new cars have air bags for front-seat passengers. When used with lap/shoulder belts, air bags work very well to protect older children and adults. Air bags do not work with rear-facing child seats (those used with infants). Airbags could seriously injure or even kill an unbuckled child or adult who is sitting too close to the air bag or who is thrown toward the dash during emergency braking. In a crash, the air bag inflates very quickly. It could hit anything close to the dashboard with enough force to cause severe injuries or even death. Because the back of a rear-facing child seat sits very close to the dashboard, the seat could be struck with enough force to cause serious, or even fatal injuries to a baby. Even older children (who have outgrown child seats) are at risk from a deploying air bag, if they are not properly restrained.
Tip for HARWOOD, Texas According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Speeding is one of the most prevalent factors contributing to traffic crashes. In 2006, speeding was a contributing factor in 31 percent of all fatal crashes, and 13,543 lives were lost in speeding-related crashes. (Traffic Safety Facts 2006 Data: Speeding, NHTSA)
